about

I was born in Gaziantep, Turkey. My journey of painting started at the age of 9, by winning the 1st prize award in Japan with my painting ‘kites’. I did paintings for 8 years at an art atelier. Within this period, I received several international and national awards with my paintings. After graduation from ITU, Istanbul Technical University Architecture Department, I obtained my master’s degree from the same university with the thesis titled “Architecture as an intermediate ground”. Meanwhile, I studied philosophy at Anadolu University. During my undergraduate and graduate education, I studied in Politecnico di Milano and Université Catholique de Louvain as part of exchange programs. Currently, I am about to complete my phd research at ITU with the thesis titled “Architectural lexicon on void: a conceptual reading approach”.

My recent works are shaped around understanding the concept of void in architecture. In this context, the interconnected lexicon that I produced as part of my phd research was exhibited at TU Delft. Besides architecture, I followed a summer school programme at NABA, Milan Fine Arts Academy. I experienced interdisciplinary creations in EEA, Europen Exchange Academy, an art academy in Germany. My works from EEA was exhibited in Beelitz and Amsterdam. I coordinated several workshops on architecture and representing ideas. I gave lectures and project studios at architecture and interior architecture departments of different universities in Istanbul.

I use diverse mediums for my works and researches such as drawing, collage, video, installation and performance as a tool to understand architecture and myself. I am in an incorrigible state of non-positioning myself in-between architecture-art-research.

In the midst of searching, I shuttle back and forth between the cities of Gaziantep and Rotterdam.
